The event on Monday 24 April involved students taking part in different 5 workshops with 8 employees from 5 employers. The workshops involved Textiles and recycling clothing, drumming, food preparation, blogging, photography and videoing.

LSEC students also provided very informative guided tours of Erith's  Media and Art and Design facilities and the Student Common Room for the Harris students.

For those privileged to be present at the Grand Finale at The Exchange in the afternoon, all the hard work in the morning came together beautifully. LSEC Art and Design students had worked hard in preparing The Exchange for the event. Several of them participated in the Fashion Show of recycled clothes, with Mary Campbell, along with Harris staff and students, who had participated in the Textiles workshop. Accompanying the Fashion Show were the Harris students involved in the drumming workshop, the food workshop, who provided canapes and the media workshop, who organised posts on social media and blogging posts and also videoed and photographed the event.  Erith Art & Design students, led by Mary Campbell, also gained valuable Work Experience developing skills in running an external event.

We've had some excellent feedback about the event. Harris staff told us how helpful it was for them and their students to visit the Erith campus and find out about what we do and the courses we offer. There were also encouraging comments about how confident a couple of former Harris students who are now doing Art courses at LSEC have become. Harris students were positive about the workshops they took part in and visiting LSEC and the guided tours.

Abigail, Year 10 student, said: "I've really enjoyed my time at London South East Colleges to celebrate and contribute to the Earth Summit. I'm taking part in the Media workshop where we're learning how to interview and gathering blog content for people to watch the fashion show. This has broadened my knowledge of how cameras work and editing videos."

Another student added: "My workshop has given me more knowledge about using social media and how to spread positive information through blogging, especially in this current day and age."

A memorable day with great support from staff and students across the Erith campus.
