Kier construction

John Bolton, Regional Director, was joined by Nick Cook, Education and Civic Centre Lead, Chanade Ramsay, Social Value Manager, and Nazmin Begum, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator.  Each shared their career histories and experiences of entering the construction industry and emphasised the role young people have in addressing future skills gaps in the sector. 

John Bolton said, "We have a skills gap in the industry, and in London it is acute; you are the people that are going to fill it." 

Kier's Construction Careers Hub comprises a full programme of events and activities, ranging from Health and Safety to Quantity Surveying, giving learners the opportunity to to gain relevant knowledge and experience, as well as networking with industry professionals. 

As part of their three-year strategic plan for their partnership with the college, Kier Construction representatives also spoke about the future education opportunities and apprenticeships available to learners as part of their Careers Hub. 

Learners asked about the professional highlights of the visitors in their respective roles. John Bolton said, "I really enjoy seeing something being built. I've left something behind that I can show my kids." 

Chanade Ramsay said, "The variety of my job is what I love. No two days are the same. Building a programme like this with a lasting legacy is great." 

Through this partnership, 40-50 opportunities through the Kier supply chain are available for our learners.
